While details are for the moment in short supply, Pioneer DJ has confirmed it is readying a new mixer for release, implying that it will offer a radical new approach to how DJs approach the craft. The company has announced the existence of the (as yet unnamed) mixer via an enigmatic one-minute promotional video titled Prepare for Battle.
“This is gonna change everything. Especially for me,” announces an unidentified North American narrator (thought to be turntablist legend Jazzy Jeff) over all-too-brief glimpses of the new unit. “This is everything that I would ever need… kinda like the 909 on super steroids.”
The clip ends by revealing the date we’ll presumably find out more about the mixer: August 6, 2015.
The release of the new hardware will be part of what has been an eventful 12 months for the company. Alongside celebrating the 20th anniversary of its involvement with dance culture, the DJing division of the company also turned heads last year when it was split off from its parent company Pioneer Corp, sold to private equity firm KKR and rebranded as Pioneer DJ.
Pioneer DJ’s highest-profile release this year has been its XDJ-RX unit, an all-in-one digital DJ solution that offered to “liberate” DJs from laptops and CDs, with a solution that placed the focus firmly on the use of USB sticks. Check out the teaser below.
