The Daft Punk Unchained documentary, billed as the “first-ever documentary film on the most secretive duo in the world,” now has its first English-language trailer.
Unchained features performance clips, archive interviews with Daft Punk’s founders Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and new chats with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers, veteran DJ Pete Tong and singer/songwriter and ASCAP president Paul Williams.
“Who revolutionized dance music the most…and people say, Daft Punk,” comments West in one scene. The trailer’s final sequence sees one of the robot drops the ultimate tease. Not since Luke Skywalker said goodbye to his father 30 years ago has a worldwide audience been this excited about someone removing their helmet.
Directed by Hervé Martin-Delpierre, Daft Punk Unchained charts the pair’s stellar career, from their first school band in Paris through to their triumphant night at the 2014 Grammy Awards, where their global hit Random Access Memories collected album of the year honors. The documentary earned its small screen debut on France’s Canal+ in June and is distributed by BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the Corporation. It’s expected to roll out in international markets before year’s end.
