Her new single receives a boost from her ‘Daily Show’ appearance. Plus, moves for Avicii, Armin van Buuren &Disclosure.
Jess Glynne gallops 49-21 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart (dated Feb. 6), with “Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself” following her Jan. 19 appearance on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show With Trevor Noah. The song soars by 737 percent to 5,000 downloads sold in the week ending Jan. 21, according to Nielsen Music. “Don’t” also starts at No. 12 on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs.
Glynne additionally performed her two Hot Dance/Electronic Songs top 10s on the show: Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be” (on which she’s featured; No. 1 for three weeks in November 2014) and “Hold My Hand” (No. 6, October 2015). Both songs show sales increases and subsequent gains on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs. “Rather” roars 33-23 on the sales survey (3,000, up 18 percent), reaching its best position since late October; it topped the chart for nine weeks in fall 2014 and has spent 98 total weeks on the list. “Hold,” meanwhile, heaves 8-6 (8,000, up 15 percent).
AVICII & ARMIN: On Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Avicii achieves his eighth top 10 with “Broken Arrows” (13-10). Driven by uncredited vocals from Zac Brown (of Zac Brown Band), “Arrows” marks the Swedish DJ’s first top 10 since “Addicted to You” (No. 4, April 2014). Since that point, Avicii has charted five other songs, including “The Nights,” which reached No. 11.
Armin van Buuren lands his record-extending 27th title on Top Dance/Electronic Albums, A State of Trance Radio Top 20: January 2016 (No. 24). (Tiesto follows with 20 chart entries.) Of the trance king’s 27 chart entries, 11 have cracked the top 10, although none have gone No. 1; his May 2013 studio album Intense came closest, debuting at No. 2. That title is also van Buuren’s highest-charting album on the Billboard 200 (No. 65).
CLUB ATTRACTION: Shifting to Dance Club Songs, Disclosure (English brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence) notches its third No. 1, “Magnets,” featuring Lorde (2-1). Since the duo first led Sept. 5, 2015 with “Holding On” (featuring Gregory Porter), no other act matches its No. 1 sum. “Omen” (featuring Sam Smith) topped the Oct. 10 tally. “Magnets” is the first Dance Club Songs leader for Lorde. Remixes from A-Trak, SG Lewis and Tiga, among others, helped Disclosure dart to the top.
