Can you believe it’s been over three years since Carnage blew a casket in the dance music scene with his festival trap remix of Hardwell’s “Spaceman”? Not only did that track propel the burgeoning trap movement forward towards its modern-day domination of EDM, but it also boosted Carnage’s career in big ways, paving the way for him to take over festival main stages the world over.
Naturally, I’m excited to hear that he’s finally bringing a debut album to the masses.Papi Gordo features a enviable list of collaborators, including A$AP Ferg, OG Maco, ILoveMakonnen, Ty Dolla $ign, Timmy Trumpet, Milo & Otis, KSHMR, and more. Also, Rick Ross is making his electronic music debut on the album’s opening track “Gordo” which features AraabMuzik (and will likely be absolute fire).
Today, Carnage dropped another song from the album, “November Skies”, featuring Nina Kinert on vocals. I’m not digging it — I’m partial to Tomas Barfod’s original, which became a Best New Track on Pitchfork when it dropped back in 2012 alongside theJerome LOL remix — but the album’s first single, “Bricks” featuring Migos, is enormous and gives me hope for the album.
We’ll have to wait and see: Papi Gordo is out October 30. Listen to a couple preview tracks below, and peep the full tracklist:
